The European Union is under pressure: citizens, politicians and external observers agree on this. From inside, Eurosceptics and populist EU opponents of all kinds are challenging her. From outside, the Union feels challenged by autocratically governed neighbours, by wars and civil wars in her close vicinity, by a rising China and a retracting USA. Migrants who flee their home countries from fear or misery seek their future in the EU, perceived by some Europeans as an opportunity, by others as a danger. With its “Europe’s Future” programme, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is carving out solutions for these internal and external challenges. This blog is a platform for debates about a solid and solidarity-based Europe that can assert itself in a rapidly changing world.
