Henrik Müller studied economics at Christian Albrechts University in Kiel and earned his doctorate under Thomas Straubhaar at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg (now Helmut Schmidt University). He trained as an editor at the German School of Journalism in Munich. He gained his first editorial experience in 1990/91 as a reporter in the then existing editorial office of the "Hamburger Morgenpost" in Rostock. This was followed by editorial positions at "Deutsches Allgemeines Sonntagsblatt" and "Stern". In 2000, Müller moved to the magazine "manager magazin," where he was appointed Managing Editor in 2004 and Deputy Editor-in-Chief in 2009. In October 2013, he took over the newly created professorship for economic journalism at the Technical University of Dortmund.
