Vita

Emily Benson is an associate fellow with the Scholl Chair in International Business at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). In this capacity, she supports the program’s research objectives. Her interests include export controls, sustainable trade, and the geopolitics of international commerce. Prior to joining CSIS, Emily worked in transatlantic legislative affairs at the Bertelsmann Foundation. A trade professional by background, Emily also previously worked to fight the illicit trade of art and antiquities from conflict zones and has worked in international sanctions law. She completed a traineeship with the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, where she covered trade defense mechanisms and digital trade issues. She holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Geneva and a bachelor’s degree in international relations and political science from the University of Colorado. A native Midwesterner, she has lived in France, Indonesia, and Switzerland.
