In the publication series “Europa briefing”, that first appeared in November 2017, our colleagues from “Repair and Prepare: Strengthen the Euro“, a joint project between the Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Jacques Delors Institut – Berlin, cover key topics of European politics and present possible scenarios. What is the problem? What might happen next? And what can politics do now? Each week, we will present one of these briefings for you on this blog. Alternatively, you can click here to find all the Europa briefings on the website of the project.

This Week’s Briefing: Convergence

The Eurozone countries are economically different. The crisis has rendered some of these differences more acute and this could destabilize the currency union. The Eurozone countries therefore need to agree on which type of convergence is most important to them and the best way to achieve it. In what areas should they converge? What differences could or should remain? And what policy instruments are required to achieve this?
